SNOWWW

The snow is finally here! I have been patiently waiting and now I am almost sick of it...just kidding. It is so nice to have a change of season. Walking to class is not as fun as I thought it would be, but its fun to occasionally help out my friends who slip and fall. Lauren loves her winter attire. Her main winter accessories consist of fussy ear muffs, leather/fur cheetah gloves that my mom gave her, and her Burberry rain-boots. I look ridiculous every time I go outside, but I just accept it. I mean its not like I am trying to look attractive for class. We put up Christmas lights in our room and we blast the Christmas music and sing obnoxiously. My mom was so cute...she sent Lauren and I a care package that included embarrassing but cute Christmas seat covers for our chairs, Christmas hot chocolate mugs, candy canes and some other stuff. I went to Target the other day and I found my two favorite Christmas movies IN ONE PACKAGE!!!! White Christmas and It's A Wonderful Life!!! I have been watching both of them religiously.

An Early Thanksgiving at Aunt Kappa's

This year I guess I will be having 2 Thanksgivings. My dad's oldest sister, Kappa, was having an early Thanksgiving dinner for my uncle's side of the family because they were in town. My roommate, Lauren, came with me. It has been almost three months since we have had a good home cooked meal. We were in heaven! We couldn't move for a good 20 minutes. We just sat on the couch and went into a food coma. It was really nice to relax on a Saturday and hang out with family.

Theta Formal

Me and my "date"

Last night was Kappa Alpha Theta's formal. The venue was a surprise so we did not know where formal was until we got there. It ended up being at the B-side Lounge on Pearl Street. Unfortunately, Michael had a boxing match at Air Force so he was not able to make it. So, I was dateless, but I still had a good time. The theme of formal was "Theta Mascaraed". Instead of wearing masks we had custom sunglasses made that said "Theta Formal 2008" on the side. We will have another dance in the spring, so we will see how it compares.

SNOW SNOW SNOW!!!

I was woken up at 7:30 this morning by a phone call from Lauren (my roommate). She was walking home from a friends house and she called to tell me that it had snowed last night. When I first looked at my phone and saw her calling I almost didn't answer. She told me to look out side the window and all I could see what WHITE. I guess that the first snow has always been on Halloween, but not this year. It came a little late, but I guess that is a good thing for me.

Tonight is my sororities winter formal, so I will post pictures as soon as possible. The venue is a secret so I will fill you in on the details tomorrow.

Halloween in Boulder!

Michael came down to Boulder got Halloween! He didn't have a costume so we went to one of the biggest costume stores in Boulder, The Ritz. We went early on Friday night (the store was PACKED) and after about an hour of searching Alex and I decided that he should be a 70's hippie. He loved the afro so much that he was thinking about trying to grow one himself (that will never happen)! I found this t-shirt at a vintage shop on the "Hill" and thought that it was hilarious. It had a backside but I didn't get a picture of it. We spent more of the night with Michael's sister Alex. Overall, it was a really fun and long night.

Parents Weekend

It took me a while to get these pictures from my mom and sister, but two weekends ago was parents weekend. It would be the first time that I would get to see them since August. I hated to admit it, but I did miss them (before I left for school I would constantly yell "I'm NOT gunna miss you!). Before the weekend I had been talking to Dante because I really wanted her to come up, but she kept telling me that she had a cross country meet and she wouldn't be able to go. My parents arrived on Friday afternoon and they were hanging out in my room for about 10 minutes and then there was a knock at the door. My roommate answered it and low and behold DANTE was standing there with my cousin Mel. I was so happy, more happy than I ever thought I would be to see her. All I could think of was everything that I was going to show her. I had such pride for my school that I wanted to show her everything. So, that afternoon I gave her a tour of the campus and where all of my classes were. Later on we all ventured down to Pearl St. (a large outdoor strip mall). Every night before our home games they have a parade with all of the football players and the band. I think it gave them a taste for the Buff school spirit. We went to the best sushi place in Boulder: Sushi Tora. It felt so nice to eat a good meal haha with half of my family. The next day was the football game against Kansas. It was an extremely close game with a final score of 14-13...we won. Dante and I sat in the student section while my parents and Aunt Kappa and Uncle Garry sat on the 50 yard line (23 rows up)!!! The day after the football game we all went to church, which was nice because I did not know where it was until we went. It made me feel like I was at home. It was a fun weekend and it makes me even more excited to go home at Thanksgiving!

Fall in Boulder

I love walking or riding my bike to class because I get the chance to stare at the beautiful scenery around me. The trees are all starting to change color and the leaves are EVERYWHERE around campus. Its a great place to visit! :)

Pad Thai Noodles

I love my roommate! Lauren came back from working out at 10:45 and she said "I want something delicious!". So she decided to make
A Taste of Thai pad thai noodles because she LOOOVESSS thai food. I told her that it probably wouldn't be very good but she was set on making them anyways. Luckily I had my camera to catch the whole reaction. She pretty much wanted to throw up after she took the first bite. It was hilarious, we laughed for about 15 minutes straight.

SNOWWWW!

Lauren and I were woken up at 11:30 to our neighbor banging on our door. She was screaming "IT'S SNOWING!!!!!". So we got out of bed, I threw on my robe and a scarf and grabbed my camera and we ran outside. I was not expecting snow until closer to Halloween, but I am really excited. I know I will not be saying that in a few weeks when all I can think about is grass and dirt. It is about 39 degrees and I'm lovin it...for now!

...last night

My roommate Lauren always has a way of making me laugh. On Sunday night I had been up until 2 in the morning "overstudying" for a ...what do you know...22 question multiple choice art history test. So I really wanted to go to bed early last night because I was so tired from the night before. Lauren "wasnt in the mood for bed" and she convinced me to watch Saturday Night Live with her until...once again...2 in the morning. I was awoken at around 4 am to Lauren standing on her desk chair screaming that there is a cockroach in her bed. She is begging me to turn my light on...and I am half asleep so I rudely say no ahah. She is going on and on about how I am such a bad roommate and that she would turn her light on for me if there was a cockroach in my bed. I told her that it was probably a dream and she slowly came to the conclusion that maybe I was right. Turned out she was sleep walking/dreaming that a cockroach was in her bed. The image of her standing on the chair, grasping onto it for her dear life is such a priceless image that I will never forget. The next even that took place was about 4 hours later. Lauren consequently slept through her alarm as well as half of her chemistry lab class. She was in such a coma, the funniest part about it was that she was half asleep running around the room trying to find clothes to put on while trying to call her classmates to let them know that she was coming. Ironically chemistry is her LEAST favorite class and she always talks about how she never wants to go, so to see her be so upset about a class that she hates was hysterical. Like I said she always makes me laugh...there will be more Lauren Shapiro stories to come.

Theta Homecoming Parade

So I have just been indoctrinated into the wonderful world of sorority life...which means that my official title is "baby" (now I know how Bennett feels). I was informed in our new member meeting that the Homecoming parade was in less than three days! In that short amount of time we (babies) had to help construct a float and make costumes so that everyone could make fun of us. At this point I am asking myself...is this for reallll...we are the older Theta's slaves right now?? We are paired with the fraternity Theta XI...they are so excited because we are all hott haha so yea duh they are excited. Being the nice sorority girls that we are, we invite them over for a dinner exchange where we eat dinner at the Kappa Alpha Theta house and then walk over to the Theta XI house and build the float. Well one thing I learned was that frat...excuse me "fraternity" boys love to procrastinate...aka love to blow off the float and play drinking games. After all it is college...but I chose not to partake in this activity. With their level of intoxication and lack of cooperation we probably had the LAMEST float because nothing was done. The theme for the Homecoming parade was "Go for the Gold!" and our personal theme was "Forever Gold". We were told that we had to dress up as CU athletes...and they wanted us to be as creative as we possibly could. So...Patrice and I thought that we would honor the forever loved sport of "Beer Pong". We were extreme beer pong players. We wore tube socks, sweat head bands, team shirts, shorts, a beer pong glove, and we made sure that we had plenty of back-up table tennis balls. We looked pretty ridiculous but so did our lame float. On our float we had three pedestals, 1st place: CU (duh), 2nd place: Texas, and 3rd place Nebraska (a frat boy with a blonde wig and extremely large breasts). I laughed at how competitive all of the other sororities and frats were...and how ridiculous we must have looked. Long story short, our float didnt even place in the ranking hahaha, so we didnt win anything. But, it was my first parade and it was fun anyways so I am glad that I wore an embarrassing costume and got laughed at by older college students...it was a great time.

Kappa Alpha THETA!

I never thought that I would EVER say that "Ima saaarrrooorityyy gurlllll"!! But now I totally am haha. Rush was such a long and excruciating process, 6 days of repetitive conversation, scary, fake, rehersed sorority girls, and HEELS. I have never told someone where I am from, how rush is going, how my day has been...so many times. It was literally exhausting. I ended up picking THETA because the girls were extremely relatable, genuine, and they love to have a good time. I told my friend that I just wanted to find a sorority with "hilarious" girls, and when it came to skit night Theta's skit was the only one that i laughed out loud at. The girls all had the best sense of humor, and since that freshman 15 is creepin up on me...I figure laughing is the best workout that I can do now hahah. When it came to bid night (the day where you find out what sorority you are in) all of my "sisters" took all of the "babies" to a Maroon 5/Counting Crows concert. It was so much fun and I felt so at home with all of the girls. This is a picture of my friend Patrice and I; Patrice and I went to Santa Margarita together...now we are sistaaaaas.

There are 3 OTHER DEVO/Y/IN'S in my house!!!!
I had never met anyone else with my same name until I came to Boulder.

Michelle Obama came to Boulder

Yesterday Michelle Obama came to Boulder to give a speech. I was upset because I had a lecture around the same time as her speech, but the teacher allowed us to go, so I went. I thought that it would be a good experience to say that I saw her speak, especially at MY school. I listened to what she had to say and her main message was that the youth of American needs to vote because we have just as big of an influential voice as the rest of American citizens. Her voting message to the youth of Boulder was good, but I am standing in a huge crowd of extreme liberal democrats and I feel like THE ONLY republican. I'm not clapping and everyone is like looking at me like because since I go to Boulder I HAVE to be clapping at michelle OBAMA!!!! She never explained the reasoning behind the points that she was bringing up. For example, she was telling everyone how her and Barack had just paid off their student loans because Barack had written 2 best selling books. I felt like she was just bringing up student loans just because most college students can relate to student loans. But what is Barack going to do about student loans...take them away? No, I felt like college students didnt even think about how the problem would be solved...just YEAH, I have student loans too...I should vote for Barack!!! Another interesting topic was that Barack's mom had just passed away from cancer and Michelle said, "When Barack's mom should have been worrying about getting better...she was worrying about if her insurance was going to cover her". The whole universal health care system kinda freaks me out...and she didnt even expand on her point.

...fell off my bike!

So today I was riding my bike and talking to my mom on the phone, f.y.i never attempt this. A crazy biker was zooming around the corner and I slammed on the one brake that my free hand was on: the front brake. Basically, I flew over the handle bars and landed on my knee and elbow, but...I DID manage to keep my phone to my ear so that i could finish my conversation with my mom. The crazy biker did not even stop to ask if I was ok, he turned his head and LAUGHED! I was so embarrassed and in soooo much pain. My knee is now swollen to the point where I can barely bend it, and I have scabs on my elbow :(. I learned my lesson and I now realize that talking and biking are two things that you should never do at the same time.

Rachel Feucht's 19th Birthday!

Rachel Feucht and I have gone to school together since kindergarten: St. Edward's, Santa Margarita, and not BOULDER! We went to a Japanese tempan restaurant and had sooo much fun. I posted some videos to give you a taste of our fun night.

Air Force Dance?

Michael had invited me to a "dance" at Air Force...and the thought of a dance both confused and scared me. I drove to Colorado Springs again and met him and his friends in front of the GORGEOUS air force chapel. All I could see were masses of Air Force cadets (men and women) in their service dress, and the few random non air force girlfriends/boyfriends in non-service dress. I laughed at how awkward the whole situation was. Michael told me that we had to wait in a long line because he had to greet and introduce me to one of the sergeants at the Academy. My first thought was, "no prob, I totally graduated from Cotillions!" haha, but when we got to the woman that he was greeting I became scared s***less. But, it went fine, no one had to do push-ups or anything. After the awkward greeting, we walking into a sea of uniforms where there was ZERO dancing at the "dance", just a chocolate fondu station and some cheese and crackers. Oh, I forgot to mention the non-alcoholic bar. Michael and his friends were all counting down the minutes until we could leave because it was a mandatory event for them and they did not want to be there. Michael and his 3 friends ended up coming down to Boulder for the weekend and Lauren and I showed them a good time. The funniest part of the weekend was when they were all blasting rap in our room because they do not have any media privileges so all they wanted to do was listen to music.

"I said it SUCKS to be a CSU fan!!!"

The day after the Air Force game was CU's first football game against our BIGGEST rival: Colorado State University. Unfortunately, the game was not at home, it was at Invesco Field in Denver (the Bronco's stadium). It was quite an adventure getting there because there were probably about 5,000 other people trying to go to the same place. My friends and I were lucky, we actually got a seat on one of the RTD busses. The aisles were filled with people who had to stand. When a bus is wayyy over capacity and the air conditioning is broken, a 30 minute bus ride it not too fun. But, we made it and WE WONNNNN!!!! It was a great way to start off our football season and I loved seeing how much school spirit every student at CU has.

First time seeing Michael since June!

This was a really exciting day for me because I got to see Michael for the first time since June 25th! It was the first Air Force game and they played Southern Utah!? I borrowed a friends car and drove to Colorado Springs, which is about an hour and a half, and met up with Michael and his parents. We tailgated with his "squad" and had delicious air force burgers haha. Michael's parents and I had to leave Michael because all of the cadets/freshman had to walk out in formation onto the field. It was one of THE most amazing things that i have ever seen. Of course they played the national anthem, and then, they had to HUGE jets fly right over the stadium...only at Air Force. All we got is a live mascot, Ralphie. Air Force one the game! It was amazing to see Michael. We are 2 years...and still going strong.

Girl Talk concert

After everyone was moved in and orientation was FINALLY over, the school had the D.J. "Girl Talk" come and perform. His music is basically a bunch of songs that are mixed. It was a good time and we all had a ton of fun. In the last picture...the blonde haired girl on the right is Michael McLain's cousin. We have become good friends here at CU!

Our First Nights...

My friend from high school, Patrice, invited all of our friends from high school who were now at Boulder to go saki bombing! Her parents had made reservations at Sushi Zen Mai, a local sushi bar in downtown Boulder. We had a private room where we were required to take our shoes off and sit on our laps at the table. It was one of THE funniest things that I have done here so far. At times we were getting a little too intense. I was really great to be with my friends from Santa Margarita.

The Dorm Room

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the door to what I would be calling my home for the next 10 months. I was extremely fortunate when it came to the size of the room. Most of my friends here have a shoe box for their room (literally four walls and two closets). My dorm has A-frame wood ceilings, two windows, and a nook for both my roommate and my desk. These are the simple luxuries of living in a college dorm. All of my friends are jealous of our room and want to trade. I probably live on the only floor in all of CU that is all girls; all of the other floors are co-ed. But, I must say that I don't mind walking around like a zombie in the morning, and down the hall in my robe without a boy strolling down the hall at the same time. I live in what I like to call a "suburb" of campus. I live in the Kittridge Community, which is on the outskirts of campus. Because the school puts us so far away from campus they thought that if they gave us a few nice ponds and some ducks and geese everything would be ok. So, far I am not complaining because I have my bike that gets me everywhere in about 5 minutes; I gotta work that "freshman 15" off some how.
My roommates name is Lauren Shapiro and she is from Dallas, Texas. I love her to death and I could not have picked a better roommates. We get a long really well and we never seem to have any dull moments. She always makes me laugh, and half the time she doesn't even know that she is being funny.
